BPL's second Dhaka phase starts tomorrow

Following a two-day hiatus, the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League is going to resume on Monday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.

In the day’s opening tie, Chattogram Challengers  will take on Rangpur Riders at 1:30 pm, while in the day's evening battle, Dhaka Dominators will face off against the defending champion Comilla Victorians at 6:30 pm, and Nagarik TV will televise the games live.

Chattogram are having a below par outing in the ninth edition of BPL, as they could secure only two victories from their six games, which pushed them to sixth place of the seven team competition.

Even in their last battle against the Khulna Tigers, Shuvagata Hom led Chattogram suffered a thrashing seven wicket defeat.

In the given state of their position in the points table, they don’t have a choice but to win against their Rangpur counterpart to keep their elimination hopes alive.

And, in order to succeed, their bowlers, as well as the batting department, must be eager to step up from the second phase of the Dhaka competition.

Former titlists Rangpur, like Chattogram, are having a disastrous season in the country's lone Twenty20 franchise competition; they won only two of their five matches, putting them in fifth place on the points table with the same four points as Chattogram.

Despite having a couple of star-studded campaigners such as Shoaib Malik, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Rony Talukdar, and Shamim Hossain, the former champions failed to substantiate their worth as a team who clinched the title of the 2017 version under the reign of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.

Although they made an effort to score 171 against Fortune Barishal in their previous match, their batsmen failed to hold their nerve in the final overs, resulting in a 67-run loss to the indomitable side.

Conversely, the evening game between the third-placed team, Comilla, and the last-place team, Dhaka, is expected to be a one sided one considering the former’s recent form.

Moreover, the inclusion of Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan and his compatriot Naseem Shah has bolstered the strength of the side.

Rizwan even admitted the fact.

‘You will make your team like a family, and Naseem is obviously in rhythm with the Pakistan team, and we have a good combination in Pakistan as well, and KPK as well, basically one city in Pakistan,’ he told the media on Sunday.
