Bangladesh High Performance Unit [HP] top order batsman Towhid Hridoy admitted that he is awaiting a national call due to his consistent gleaming performances in the various competitions he has competed in over the years.
The 22-year-old, who plays for the Sylhet Strikers, is enjoying a rare run of success after hitting three consecutive fifty-plus scores in four games of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, earning him the title of player of the match and paving the way for him to take the lead among all batsmen with 195 runs at a sublime strike rate of 166.66.
‘It's a dream for every player to make an appearance for his nation. I also do the same. However, right now I am not focusing on the national side, rather, I always get ready to perform on any platform,’ said Towhid while talking to this reporter.
‘Performance is the only thing within my grasp. However, I am not able to say anything about making a call on the national side, as that is not within my control. But I believe that I might have been handed an opportunity in the national fold,’ he added.
With his stormy willow, the former U-19 campaigner won the hearts of fans and others in the country's fraternity, which could also draw the attention of national selectors.
However, an unforeseen injury in this hand appeared as an obstruction in the way of his rhythmic performances and sidelined him from the country’s lone franchise T20 competition.
Now, he expects to return to the competition for Sylhet soon, but he clarified that everything depends on the physician's decision, adding that he misses the momentum he gained in the first episode of the country's lone T20 franchise tournament.
‘Yes, now I am better than before. I hope to overcome my injury shortly to compete in the BPL for my side [Sylhet Strikers].’
‘Of course, I am. When you make such a gleaming start and then rule someone out due to an injury, that is something that someone would be greatly missing. It would be preferable if I could participate in the competition.
