Iftekhar Ahmed blazed a 45-ball hundred while Shakib Al Hasan smacked his highest ever in T-20 as the Fortune Barishal clinched a 67-run win over Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram on Thursday.
With Iftekhar scoring an unbeaten 100 off 45 balls and Shakib standing on 89 off 43 balls, Barishal posted a mammoth 238-4, the highest ever BPL total at the ZACS and also the second highest in the history of the country’s T20 franchise competition.
In reply, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz scalping 3-26 and Mohammad Wasim, Kamrul Islam taking two wickets each, Rangpur were restricted to 171-9 in the stipulated overs.
Shamim Hossain scored a top 44 off 24 balls for Rangpur.
Sent to bat, Barishal lost their top three batsmen for 46 runs inside the power play, but a 196-run fifth-wicket stand between Shakib and Iftekhar helped them achieve the highest ever total at the Port City venue.
Hasan Mahmud and Haris Rouf took two wickets each.
Rangpur, chasing a massive 239, got off to a stuttering start, losing six wickets for 78 runs.
Then, riding on Mahedi Hasan’s 33 and Shamim Hossain's 44, Rangpur amassed 171–9.
