Khushdil, Rizwan guide Comilla to stun Dhaka

Khushdil Shah and Mohammad Rizwan hit fifties each to help the Comilla Victorians win their third game in a row, defeating the Dhaka Dominators by 33 runs on Thursday at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Comilla's Pakistani middle order batsman Khushdil smashed an unbeaten whirlwind 24-ball 64, while his compatriot Rizwan finished with 55 off 47 balls to help the team reach 184-4 in the allotted overs.

In reply, Dhaka were restricted to 151-4, with their skipper Nasir Hossain hitting a 45-ball 66 and Mohammad Mithun scoring 36 off 34 balls.

Comilla batted first, and their in-form batsman Liton Das was out for naught on the first ball of their batting innings to Taskin Ahmed, who had hit back-to-back fifties in the previous two games.

In the second wicket stand, skipper Imrul Kayes and Mohammad Rizwan stitched 47 off 42 balls to curb the early damage before the former gave a catch to Robin Das for a 26-ball 33 by Nasir, leaving the Victorians on 47-2 in 7.2 overs.

However, Rizwan and Johnson Charles shared a 40-run stand in the next stand to put the titlist on the verge of a century before the latter was dismissed for 20 off 19 by Mohammad Imran.

Then it was the eye popping fifth wicket stand between Khusdil and Rizwan, who formed a stormy 36-ball 84 before the former was trapped leg before by Soumya Sarkar for 64 runs off just 24 balls.

In the process, Khushdil hit seven boundaries and five maximums.

Later, in the next stand, Rizwan and Jaker Ali formed a 13-run stand to set an onerous target for Dhaka.

Dhaka, chasing an exciting spot, got off to a shaky start, losing their top order trio for 34 in 6.1 overs.

Soumya Sarkar of the Bangladesh national team, who had scored 16, 6, 4, 0 in his previous four appearances, was out for a duck by Hasan Ali, while Robin Das was caught behind the stumps for a naught by Tanvir Islam, and Ahmed Shehzad was run out for 19.

Mohammad Mithun was excluded by Mosaddek Hossain.

Then, in the fifth wicket stand, Ariful Haque and Nasir Hossain shared an unbeaten 42-ball 66 run, but this only narrowed the run difference.

Ariful stood on a 17 ball-24.

The victory means Comilla Victorians are now in third place in the points table, bagging three wins from six ties, while Dhaka has been pushed to the bottom, suffering five defeats in a similar number of games.
