Khulna Tigers ended their winless streak in the Bangladesh Premier League on Tuesday with a thrashing nine-wicket victory over Rangpur Riders at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, thanks to opener Tamim Iqbal's 47-ball 60 cameo.
Alongside Tamim’s maiden unbeaten fifty in the competition, Mahmudul Hasan made 38 off 42 balls to reach the side at 130-1 with ten balls to spare, chasing down a paltry 129.
Khulna Tigers Pakistani medium pacer Wahab Riaz finished with a career-high 4-14 in T20s, while his compatriot Amad Butt claimed three wickets to all-out Rangpur in the stipulated overs.
Mahedi Hasan scored a highest of 38 off 34 balls for Rangpur.
Rangpur lost their top-order duo, Rony Talukdar and Mohammad Naim, on 22 inside the third over, as Nahidul Islam removed the pair for a duck and 25 runs, respectively.
Although Mahedi and Parvez Hossain Emon looked desperate to overcome their early damage sharing a 28-ball 29 run stand for the third wicket, their effort was in vain after the latter gave a catch to Butt for 25 off 24 balls by Riaz.
The 37-year-old left handed bowler then claimed Mohammad Nawaz, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Rakibul Hasan for 5, 9, and 12 to embrace his feat in the T20s that paved the way for Khulna to bowl out their counterparts below the hundred-and-thirty threshold.
Pursuing a humble target, Khulna openers Tamim Iqbal and Munim Shariar shared a decent 41-run stand from 33 balls.
However, just three balls before the power play, Rangpur's Afghanistan pacer compelled the latter to drop a catch to his Pakistani teammate Shoiba Malik for a run-a-ball 21.
However, Taim continued to bat alone, adding 89 points off 77 balls with Joy in the next stand to anchor the side to victory in 18.2 overs.
