The Bangladesh Cricket Board is expected to start the 2023 season of Dhaka Premier League in the first week of March, confirmed a BCB official.
According to him, they are also all set to come up with some lucrative offers for the leading performers in the contention to make the country's prestigious domestic competition more exciting and worthwhile.
Seeking anonymity,vtge BCB high official said that they have increased the sum of prize money from Tk 5 thousand to ten thousand for the while the player of tournament alongside the highest wicket taker and top run getter would be rewarded Tk 2 lakh each for the first time.
'The player of the match who earlier received Tk 5 thousand will be handed Tk ten thousand from this edition of DPL while the player of the tournament, highest wicket taker and top run getter of the contention would be handed Tk 2 lakh,’ he said while talking to the reporter.
The BCB is doing all with an aim to, make the tournament more exciting and worthwhile and also for the financial wellbeing for the cricketers.
‘You know earlier we used to hand only a crest and Tk five thousand for the player of the match. To me it was not adequate. Therefore we have decided to intensify their prize money from this version.’
‘Top performers like player of tournament, highest wicket taker and run getter were also omitted to hand financial benefits in the past seasons.
‘Taking it into the considerations we have agreed to provide them Tk 2 lakh each, so that they feel enthusiastic to give their best in the tournament that eventually would make it more exciting.’
He additionally informed that they originally were expecting to run the country’s top domestic competition from February 20.
However, with the ongoing ninth edition of Bangladesh Premier League and approaching Ramadan in mind, they have settled to hold the contention in the beginning of March.
‘You know BPL will run until the midway of February and Ramadan is set to start in the early of April. Consequently we have decided to hold the DPL in the first week of March as that is the only slat we have, prior to the rainy season.’
