The Bangladesh Cricket Board media committee chairman Tanvir Ahmed Titu said on Tuesday that their disciplinary committee must take some actions against Shakib Al Hasan after he was found involved in a heated argument with the field umpires during the match between Fortune Barishal and Rangpur Riders in the ongoing edition of the Bangladesh Premier League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
‘Players might be excited for various reasons. Although they shouldn't, as the umpire’s decision is final. However, it's all part of the game and emotions,' Tutu explained after tying the game in Mirpur.
He also believes that, following the submission of the match referee's report, the BCB disciplinary committee must take some actions.
‘The disciplinary committee must take some actions after they receive the report from the match referee.’
The incident occurred at the start of Barisal's batting innings, who were set to chase down the total of 158-7 set by Rangpur.
Before the second innings began, Barishal skipper Shakib was seen talking with the umpires and appeared excited. Shakib needed to be calmed down as he and the umpire walked back halfway before the 35-year-old all-rounder turned around and headed towards the dugout.
Rangpur were set to begin their innings with left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan. However, when their skipper Nurul Hasan found that Barisal’s left-handed opener Chaturanga de Silva was taking the strike, Nurul tried to bring in right-arm off-spinner SK Mahedi in place of Rakibul as a matchup.
Seeing that, Barisal tried to switch their openers and wanted right-handed Anamul Haque to open the batting and face Mahedi, but the umpires weren’t allowing it.
However, Shakib couldn’t accept it and subsequently entered the field from the dressing room and was spotted exchanging heated arguments with the field umpires.
Ultimately, the umpires upheld the initial line-up, and Rakibul had to begin the innings with the ball with Chaturanga on strike.
This isn't the end of Shakib's on-field misbehaviour; earlier on Friday, the ace all-rounder was seen yelling at an umpire's decision in their opening tie after the field umpire didn't declare a bowl as 'no' due to a height issue.
