Zakir, Towhid guide Sylhet to a back-to-back win

The Sylhet Strikers registered their second consecutive victory in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League 2023 as they secured a six wicket win against Fortune Barishal at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday.

Chasing down a mammoth 195 runs, Towhid Hridoy struck 55 off 34 balls, and Najmul Hossain Shanto and Zakir Hasan made 48 and 43 runs, respectively, to pull Sylhet to 196-4, with six balls to spare.

This was the third-highest-scoring chase in BPL history.Khulna Tigers have the record for the highest successful chase in BPL history, having previously chased down 205 runs against Dhaka Platoon in 2020.

Mushfiqur Rahim stood at 23 off 11 balls, while Thisara Perera made 20 out of just nine balls for the Sylhet franchise.

Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan struck a blistering knock of 67 off 32 balls with seven fours and four sixes, while Chaturanga de Silva and Anamul Haque Bijoy made 36 and 29 runs, respectively, that aided Barishal to post 194-7 in their stipulated overs after they decided to bat first.

Chaturanga and Anamul shared a 67-run stand to set the platform for Barishal before Shakib showcased his muscle power to rock the Sylhet bowling attack.

Sylhet’s Mashrafe bin Mortaza finished with 3-48.

However, the total wasn’t enough at the end, as Sylhet cruised to victory with one over to spare.
