khulna Tigers Dutch pacer Paul Van Meekreen expressed his utmost disappointment on the back of the unavailability of the Decision Review System in the ongoing edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.
‘It’s very disappointing, I mean that’s why you got the DRS system to get mistakes out of the game. I was surprised last night also. There was a review but no hawk eye,’ said Paul on Saturday in the press conference after the match.
Earlier, Khulna suffered a six-wicket defeat against Dhaka Dominators in their opening match of BPL where a hot argument took place regarding a leg before decision of Soumya Sarker handed by the on-field umpire Gazi Sohel.
The controversy emerged in the sixth over of Dhaka's innings, Nasum Ahmed made a leg before appeal against Somya Srakar on 5, and the on-field umpire Gazi Sohel gave the latter out.
Soumya defied the umpire’s decision and opted for the Alternative Review System.
Meanwhile, Khulna senior campaigner Tamim Iqbal appeared before Soumya, and spotted to make him understand, but Soumya denied Tamim.
However, Gazi Sohel handed over the decision to TV umpire David Millins, who handed Soumya out checking with the ADRS, but the latter further challenged the TV umpire’s decision and was unwilling to leave the field.
Consequently, Gazi went for the third umpire's decision, who announced Soumya not out therefore the on-field umpire was impelled to overturn his decision.
Afterwards, Tamim once again appeared between Soumya and the umpire and was also spotted arguing with the umpire.
