The Bangladesh cricket Board received severe denunciation from their Test and T20I skipper Shakib Al Hasan on the back of their complete failure to hold a quality Bangladesh Premiere League.
Despite the fact that the ninth season of the BPL is set to begin on January 6, some franchise owners have yet to prepare their official jersey, and the league's governing council has yet to name the title sponsor and incorporate the Decision Review System for the group phase ties.
That suggests that the country’s lone T20 franchise competition is going to be less competitive and insignificant.
I don’t have any idea. I also don’t know whether the BCB couldn’t or didn’t want to establish BPL as a brand. If they truly wanted to consider the possibility of Bangladesh cricket, there is no reason., said Shakib on Wednesday in a programme orgnised by Gulf Oil in the city.
‘I guess we didn’t want to do anything like that outspokenly, therefore, nothing took place until today.’
He further rued the negligence of the BPL Council, the supreme authority to run the tournament and also a sister concern of BCB, to create a liberal market for the country’s cricket.
‘We couldn't create the market, but if we could and added value to it, [cricket] was bound to have a large market. There isn't a single village where cricket isn't played. Even in remote areas, people are playing cricket with some kind of bat and bowl.’
'It's unfortunate that a cricket-crazed country like India, with a population of 16-20 crores, has no market. At least I don’t believe it.’
‘And as per that context of marketing, I feel it’s a huge failure; consequently, we couldn’t make that kind of market.’
Concerning the unavailability of DRS, the champion cricketer believes that it wouldn’t be a difficult task if the governing council truly desired to incorporate it.
‘I guess it might be due to the budget shortage at BCB. Nothing stops if there is compassion. I don't see any reason for DRS's absence, not even the auction, which should have occurred at least three months ago, and teams would not have been settled two months earlier if the players were available.’
