The Bangladesh Cricket Board will consider names and experiences before appointing a new head coach for the Bangladesh national cricket team, said the board’s chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury.
The Tigers' cricket administration is seeking to fill the shoes of their former South African head coach Russell Domingo ahead of the forthcoming high-profile home series against England.
The 48-year-old coach resigned from his role on Tuesday through an email from South Africa, just two days after his charges suffered a clean sweep by 2-0 against India in the Test series.
‘We would go for the best option once we gather the names. Of course we will pick-the best option, and in that case we will underscore the names, experiences, and so forth,’ said the BCB CEO on Thursday in Mirpur.
‘England will visit Bangladesh. BPL is taking place therefore there is an advantage here as we are getting sometimes. We would be aiming to incorporate someone reliable into the national fold before the series kicks off,’ he added.
He also clarified that they are set to overlook those names who will prioritize their franchise commitment rather than their national duty as a head coach.
‘I don’t think that there would be such an opportunity [to prioritize franchise leagues]. Even our honorable president [Nazmul Hasan] has cleared the case that the national team will come first.’
‘If there is anything that conflicts with [national duty], the chances of compromising are slim. Especially for the coaching, you would have to keep in mind that if the national duty clashes with his past commitments, he wouldn’t have a chance.
Meanwhile, a murmur is taking place in the country’s cricket fraternity regarding the inclusion of Chandika Hathurusingha, who was previously appointed as the Tigers' head coach, alongside the former Australian batsman Mike Hussy to fill the shoes of Domingo.
However, Nizamuddin voiced unwilling to reveal the name before they finalized it, adding that they would emphasize the best option among the available names they had received so far.
