Bangladesh bowlers’ efforts went in vain after Sheyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin shared a crucial 71-run stand in the eighth wicket that aided India to earn a thrilling 3-wicket win against Bangladesh in the first session of the fourth day of the second and final Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday.
Ashwin and Iyer remained unbeaten on 42 and 29 runs, respectively, to take the visitors to 145-7, where they only needed 100 runs to win the match and sweep the hosts 2-0.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz finished with his ninth five-wicket haul, while Shakib Al Hasan scalped two.
India resumed their innings on 45-5 with their overnight batsmen Axar Patel and Jaydev Unadkat, who stood on 26 and 3 runs.
However, the pair could add 11 runs before the latter was removed by Shakib for a 16-ball 13.
In the next stand, Axar and Rishabh Pant shared a 15-run before Miraz trapped the latter leg before on 9 that induced a fragrance of victory in the hosts' dressing room.
It further inflated when Miraz struck once again to dismiss Axar for a valuable 69-ball 34 to complete his ninth five-wicket haul in the longest format of cricket, and India were shortened to 74-7.
The home side's efforts came to an end when Ravichandran Ashwin, who survived a catch-drop by Mominul on 1, and his partner Sreyas Iyer added 71 runs in the eighth wicket stand to reach the finish line in 47 overs.
