Bangladesh batsman Liton Das believes that if they can pick up a couple wickets in the early session of the fourth day of the second and final Test it wouldn’t be a tough task to earn a historical win against the visitors at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
The home side, who gained a 145-run lead in the second innings, reduced the visitors to 45-4 in the evening session with Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib al hasan taking three and one wicket, respectively.
That meant the visitors needed exactly 100 runs to win the second game, allowing them to clean sweep the hosts by 2-0.
‘If we can take one or two early wickets tomorrow morning, it is possible to win the game. They will be under pressure if we take one or two quick wickets tomorrow. I think this target is enough for a win,’ said Liton in the post day-3 presser in Mirpur.
‘We always know how hard it is to bat in the fourth innings in Mirpur. The score that we actually put up, it is still difficult,’ he added.
At the same time, he firmly accepted that the tie wouldn’t go until the fifth day.
‘This Test wouldn’t go into the fifth day, so I kept saying to Taskin that we must attack them. I think we were successful.’
Liton, who finished with a crucial 73 in the second innings against India, had a tremendous outing this year as he scored 1921 runs across all formats of cricket, that placed him in second place right after Pakistan opener Babar Azam, who bagged 2423 runs.
The feat now inspires him to repeat the same in the upcoming year as well.
‘When you have made a place for yourself, it is challenging to hold on to it. I am thankful to God for giving me this opportunity. I am grateful for such a great 2022. I will try to give my best to have a similar 2023.’
