Vikram Rathour the India batting coach praised the wickets and the infrastructures of the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium due its changing manners ahead of the second and final Test against Bangladesh that would be vied at the venue on Thursday.
Since its beginning back in 2006, the SBNCS was commonly known as a ground of spinners friendly on the back of its slow and low pitches that used to produce small totals.
However, as the time has passed the characteristics of the wickets have changed as alongside the spinners now pacers are also getting equal advantages from its surface.
As an example, the touring Sri Lanka managed a handful of 506-run in their first innings during their last visit in May of this year while the hosts gathered a moderate 365, suggesting that the country’s home venue has overcome its previous slander thanks to its changing nature.
‘The infrastructure has definitely improved. The grounds are better, outfields are better, and wickets definitely. We are expecting it to be a sporting wicket, whichever way it goes.’
Earlier on Wednesday the India head coach Rahul Dravid alongside the stand-in captain Lokesh Rahul was spotted to have a close look to the wicket and also noticed a bit of worry.
However, in the pre-match presser Rathour looked quite relieved when his attention was drawn in this connection.
‘We want the Test match to be decided. Both the teams are looking to have a good Test. It is certainly much better than earlier times when we travelled. Very slow and low. It is better than that time.’
The 53-year-old former India wicketkeeper batsman also vowed to catapult a substantial total if they bat first.
‘However, it plays, we need to make as many runs as we can. I can't put a number to it, but we expect to put up a big score if we get to bat first.’
