Bangladesh need 241-run to win the first Test

Although Zakir Hasan secured his maiden Test ton however Bangladesh suffered a fatal batting slump in the last session of the day-four play as the home side were trailing by 241 runs in the second innings of the first of the two-match Test series against India at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattrogram on Saturday.

 

The hosts who were 119-0 at lunch were reduced to 272-6 at stumps.

Axar Pate picked up three and Umesh yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav scalping one wicket each.

Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz remained unbeaten on 40 and 9 runs respectively.

Bangladesh resumed their innings on 42-0 with their overnight batsmen Najmul Hossain Shanto and debutant Zakir Hasan who stood on 25 and 17-run respectively.

However, the duo shared a record highest 124-run stand against india for Bangladesh in the opening stand in the longest format of cricket before Shanto was removed by Umesh for 67, his third Test fifty in 46.1 overs.

Yasir Ali followed his steps just after three overs as he was excluded by Axar Patel for 5 followed by Liton Das for 19 by Kuldeep Yadav that lessened the side to 173-3 at Tea.

However, in the post tea session Zakir bagged his maiden Test ton sweeping Axar at boundary through fine leg.

In the process, he played 219 balls and pummeled thirteen boundaries along with a maximum before he was dismissed by Ashwin for a 224-ball 100.

Later, Patel also claimed Mushfiqur Rahim and Nurul Hasan for 23 and 3 runs respectively to mute their dream to secure a win chasing a record target.

In the first innings, Bangladesh were all-out for a meager 150, while India, who posted a sizeable 404 in their first innings, made 258-2d to gain a mammoth 513-run lead in the second innings.
