Suzie Bates and Maddy Green hit an unbeaten fifty each to power New Zealand women’s team to a commanding 8-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the first of the three-match ODIs at Wellington on Sunday.
Suzie and Maddy stood on a 91-ball 93 and 70-ball 59 respectively to pull the hosts to 181-2, pursuing a moderate 180-8, with skipper Nigar Sultana making 73 off 133 balls.
Jess Kerr was the standout bowler for the home side scalping 4-23.
And for the visitors, Jahanara Alam took two wickets.
Batting first the visitors lost their two batters for 10-runs inside the power play.
However, in the second and third wicket stand Sharmin Akhter-Nigar Sultana and Nigar-Lata Mondal shared a 64 and 55 run stand respectively to manage a humble 180-8.
In reply, riding on Suizie and Maddy’s undefeated 91 and 59 respectively the hosts reached the target in 31 overs, losing just two wickets.
