Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz expressed his ecstasy after he hit his maiden ton in the second ODI against India that eventually guided them to secure a historic series win over the visitors at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.
The hosts are now 2-0 up in the three ODIs against the visitors, thanks to two consecutive victories.
With Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman forming a crucial 51-run stand in the tenth wicket stand as the home side bagged one-wicket to lead the series by 1-0, followed by a monumental 148-run seventh wicket stand by Miraz and Mahmudullah, it handed them a slim five-run win over the top-ranked side.
Miraz stood on a 83 ball-100.
This was their second consecutive ODI series victory over the tourists, following a 2-1 victory in 2015.
‘It’s a huge achievement for me as India is one of the best teams in the world right now. To me, performing against such a mighty side gives someone an unique feel. More importantly, we could earn a series win the second time against India,’ he said in the post-match press conference.
However, the 25-year-old admitted that he had no intention of accomplishing the feat.
‘I didn’t have any specific intent to earn it. I just tried to play according to the team plan, which eventually worked.
He also praised his teammate Nasum Ahmed, who hit an 18-ball 18 and shared a 23-ball 54 in the eighth wicket stand to help their team total after Mahmudullah was dismissed for 77.
'I must give Nasum credit. We wouldn't have been able to post 271-7 without his stormy innings, and adding that conversation with Mahmudullah while forming their second-highest 148-run stand in the seventh wicket stand paved the way for them to catapult the healthy total.
‘The conversation between me and Ryad bhai helped us to build the innings.’
