Bangladesh pacer Ebadot Hossain believes that the win they earned against India in the opener of the three match one-day series was vital for them as they had been suffering relentless losses against them.
Opting to bowl first, Shakib Al Hasan and Ebadot Hossain set the tone for the hosts, scalping five and four wickets, respectively, to bundle out the visitors for a moderate 186.
Following that, in the tenth wicket stand, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman put on a historic 51-run stand to lead the home team to a thrilling one-wicket victory over the tourists.
Before featuring in the ongoing series, Bangladesh played a total of 35 ODIs against the mighty side but could seal only five victories. And on several occasions, they conceded defeat in the last over or last ball thriller against the top ranked line-up.
In the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza led Bangladesh suffered one run loss in the last ball thriller.
Later, it was the Nidahas Trophy, held in 2018 in Colombo, where Bangladesh failed to restrict the Asian giants, who needed 12-runs to clinch the title in the final over, followed by the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, where the Tigers suffered a five-run loss in the final over thriller.
'We needed such a win. In ODIs, we are a very good side. Still, we celebrated the victory very well,’ said Ebadot on Monday in a video message provided by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
However, he acknowledged that the win uplifted their morale enough to seal the next match to lead the series by 2-0.
‘We are leading the series by 1-0, that doesn’t necessarily mean that we clinched the series. We have a training session tomorrow, then the second tie the next day,' he said.
"We're all morally boosted right now. We intend to meet the next tie well together," he concluded.
The second game of the series will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium at 12 p.m. on Wednesday.
