Bangladesh bounced back from the verge of defeat after Mehidy Hasan stepped up with the astonishing batting that powered the Tigers to a dramatic one-wicket victory over India in the first ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday.
Mehidy, who hit scored 38 off 39 balls, formed a record 41-ball 51-run partnership with Mustafizur Rahman, who also remained unbeaten on 10 off 11 balls, in the tenth-wicket stand to safeguard the Tigers to 187 in 46 overs.
Earlier, with Shakib Al Hasan and Ebadot Hossain claiming their career best 5-36 and 4-47 respectively, India were all-out for a moderate 186 in 41.2 overs.
Interim captain Liton Das made highest 41 off 63 balls for the hosts.
Mohammad Siraj was the pick among the bowlers for the visitors claiming 3-32 while Kuldeep Sen, Washington and Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur Sundar took two and one wickets each respectively.
For India, Lokesh Rahul hit highest 70-ball 73.
Sent to bat, the touring side made a stuttering start as they lost their top three batsmen for 49 with Shakib rattling the stumps of Rohit Sharma for 27 followed by a stunning catch of Virat Khohli at short cover by Liton Das for 9 subsequently Mehidy Hasann dismissing Shikhar Dhawan for 7.
Shakib carried on his acrobatic bowling spell that guided him to pick-up Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar for 19, 2 and 0 to land his career best bowling in the ODIs.
His fellow colleague Ebadot Hossain also continued putting presser upon the bowlers with the relentless pace and bounce that eventually handed him the valuable wicket of Lokesh Rahul who finished with atop for the visitors alongside Sreyas Iyer, Shabaz Ahmed and Mohammad Siraj for 24, 0 and 9 respectively to crash the tourists for a humble 186, their second lowest against Bangladesh.
Pursuing a moderate 187, Bangladesh also fashioned a wobbling go as they lost their top two batsman for 26 inside the powerplay.
In the third wicket stand Shakib and Liton added 48-runn to overcome the early loss however they failed to go further after the former game a catch to Kohli for 29.
Other two Bangladesh senior campaigners Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah were also removed for a sluggish 45-ball 18 and 35-ball 14 respectively that eventually created huge pressure for the hosts and led them to 136-9.
Later the monumental 41-ball 51 run partnership between Miraz and Mustafiz helped them to breeze past the target although the former Hasan had handed a life by Lokesh Rahul for 12.
