Considering the robustness in batting, bowling, and fielding Bangladesh interim captain Liton Das promised to win the ODI series against the touring India which starts at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday.
The first of the three one-day matches will begin at 12 p.m. Bangladesh Standard Time and GTV, T Sports will televise the tie live.
‘Our lone target is winning," It is entirely possible to defeat them [India]. Our all three wings are quite better,' said Liton at the pre-match press conference on Saturday.
‘We would be content if we could retain the trophy. We don’t need anything else than that,’ he added.
Bangladesh, who have been consistently performing well in one-day internationals but have only won five of 36 games against India, have gone neck-and-neck on several occasions.
Even in their last encounter during the 2019 edition of the ICC World Cup held in England and Wales the Tigers suffered a tiny 28-run defeat, chasing down a mammoth 314.
The Tigers' heroics do not end here, as in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup, held in Australia, the Tigers had the upper hand until the final over of the tie, but eventually lost by five runs [D/L] to Rohit Sharma's India.
Despite the fact that it was a different format game, Bangladesh could demonstrate Herculean efforts by giving India a never-ending challenge with Liton's robust 27-ball score of 60.
"We're ecstatic about it."India is a good side. They have both fame and glory. We've recently been playing competitive cricket against them. They no longer treat us as an underdog. It’s a big affair for us,’ said the Bangladesh skipper.
The top order batsman expressed his ecstasy as the Bangladesh Cricket Board kept their trust in him as a captain to lead the side in such a high-voltage clash.
I am grateful to BCB for the opportunity. I am excited. I would be keen to display my potential.’
Meanwhile, India captain Rohit Sharma expressed respect to the hosts for their consistent gleaming performances against them.
‘I think it has been an exciting rivalry for all these years. You know that for the last seven-eight years, the Bangladesh cricket team has been a different team, they are a very challenging team, and we didn’t have easy wins against them.
‘I think in 2015 we lost the series here. We know they are a very improved team in the last few years. So we have to play our best cricket to win this. It is not going to be easy for us,’ he added.
