Towhid Hridoy and Naim Sheikh hit a fifty each that powered BCB South Zone to a 72-run win over BCB North Zone in the opening game of the tenth Bangladesh Cricket League at the BKSP-4 on Sunday.
Towhid made a 71-ball 66, while Naim finished with 54 off 66 balls to post 199 before they were bundled out for 199 in 43.3 overs.
Mohammad Saifuddin was the puck among the bowlers, claiming 5-30, and Taskin Ahmed, Shafiqul Islam took two wickets each.
In reply, BCB North were all-out for 177 in 29.3 overs, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz scalping 5-42.
Sent to bat, BCB South made a wobbling start as they lost their opener Anamul Haque Bijoy for just 12, that shortened them to 15-1 inside the second over.
In the middle, Nasir Hossain, Naeem Islam also failed to appear as the saviors for the side, as the duo were dismissed for 4 each.
However, riding on Naim’s 54, Towhid's 66, and Miraz’s 25 off 42 BCB South managed a humble 199.
Pursuing a moderate 200, North Zone top and middle order suffered a batting collapse that lessened them to 69-5.
However, in the late order a quick 43 off 42 balls from Shamim Hossain Patwary propelled them to 127.
