Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan on Sunday accepted their coldness towards the Bangladesh national women’s team despite their multiple achievements in international cricket.
The Bangladesh women’s team, who clinched the 2019 SAAF title before they secured their maiden Asia Cup title in the last version in 2018, also earned their crown as an unbeaten champion in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup Qualifying in the United Arab Emirates.
In the ongoing Asia Cup, the defending champions also made a flying start, earning a crashing nine-wicket victory against their Thailand counterparts.
'The girls have been playing better cricket since long. It is our limitation that we are not looking at them,’ said Nazmul while opening the eighth edition of the Women’s Asia Cup in Sylhet.
He further acknowledged that although the Bangladesh women’s team had handed them several successes on several occasions, however they couldn’t look after them properly.
'They [the women’s team] secured the championship title in the World Cup qualifying that they also earned earlier and played in the World Cup. They also clinched the Asia Cup and SAFF championship titles as unbeaten champions. He added that they have been playing better relentlessly.
Over the years, BCB has been seen to be incautious regarding the payment of the women’s team.
When the members of the men’s team received BDT 2 00000, 300000 and 600000 each for the T20Is, ODIs and Tests respectively the members of the women’s team remained poorly paid.
According to their last payment bump by the board in the last year, they received USD 300 for the ODIs and USD 150 for the T20Is as match fees.
However, the BCB boss further hoped that Bangladesh would be able to feature in the final of the ongoing Asia Cup.
Initially, it would be a semi-final before the final. Of course, there is a possibility to cruise in the final.’
