Bangladesh opening batsman Najmul Hossain Shanto promised to capitalize their eighth ICC T20 World Cup experience in the upcoming editions of the marquee competitions.
According to the country's cricket experts, the Bangladesh national team had an unexciting outing in the ongoing version of the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.
With Shakib Al Hasan’s troops beating Zimbabwe and the Netherlands in Super 12 to make their campaign the most successful-ever, the Tigers suffered a hammering against South Africa and failed to cross the line against India.
They missed a golden opportunity to make their T20 World Cup campaign truly memorable, losing to Pakistan by five wickets in their final Super 12 match in Adelaide on Sunday.
‘When we will feature in the next World Cups, we will carry this confidence about how we could do better in this situation,' said Najmul on Monday night at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport upon their arrival from Adelaide.
‘We did better in terms of results than previous editions of the World Cups. The most outstanding thing was the two wins that we earned, we played better cricket there. We featured there as a side,’ he added.
Before coming to the global event, Najmul underwent severe denunciations on the back of his poor form, and it looked like it would never end when he finished with 25 and 9 runs against the Netherlands and South Africa in the opening two ties of the World Cup, respectively.
However, he could secure his maiden fifty [71] T20I against Zimbabwe, which paved the way for the Tigers to beat Zimbabwe.
Although he got out for 21 in the following tie against India, he could turn things around strongly against Pakistan, hitting a 48-ball 52 for his second half century in T20I.
The left-hander acknowledged that he didn’t overhear the out-of-field affairs that eventually aided him to be ended with as a pick, bagging 180 runs from five games among all Bangladesh batsmen.
‘Ample murmurs took place regarding me, however, I didn’t focus on that, rather concentrated on my match alongside batting and training. Still, I think I will do more well than I did here. I would be aiming to do that.
