After Rumana Ahmed’s three wicket haul opener Shamima Sultana hit a stormy 49 that guided Bangladesh women's team a crushing 9-wicket win over Thailand in the opener of the Women’s Asia Cup at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
Rumana claimed 3 in her three overs spells at an economy rate of 3.00 alongside a maiden while Shoely Akter, Snajida Akter Meghla, Nahida Akter took 2 each and Salma Khatun ended with one wicket to depose Thailand women’s for 82 in 19.4 overs.
With needing a sorry 83 the Shamima pummeled a 49 off 30 balls hitting ten fours at an strike rate of 163.33 while an unbeaten 29 balls 26 came from Fargana Hoque’s willow that guided the defending champions to breeze it past compensating only one wicket with 50 ball to spare.
For Thailand Phannita Maya scored a top 22 balls 26 runs.
Batting first after winning the toss Thailand made a stuttering start as they lost their top two batters for 16 inside the power play.
In the third-wicket stand Natthakan Chantham and Phannita Maya formed a 38-run partnership to overcome the early loss however they failed to go forth after the latter was removed for 26 by Shohely.
That was the end of Thailand batting innings as none of the batter from the middle or lower-middle could form a big partnership.
In reply, the hosts made a flurry start as the opening duo Shamima Sultana and her partner Fargana Hoque formed a quick-fire 69 off 49 balls partnership before the former was excluded just a run away from her second T20I fifty.
In the second wicket stand, skipper Nigar Sultana and Fargana added 19 runs to take their side to the harbor of victory in just 11.4 overs.
Bangladesh will encounter their Pakistan counterpart in their second tie on October 3.
