The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is mulling the idea of Women's BPL to help Women's cricket make a giant stride, said its president Faruque Ahmed.
There was initiative in the past too to launch Women's BPL like the other countries like India, Australia or England, but the lack of interest from the different business houses and sponsors hindered the prospect.
"The idea of Women's BPL is fantastic. It can make wonder in our women's cricket, Faruque told the reporters here today.
"I believe, we have given Women's cricket a proper importance. We tried to increase their facilities. We want our women's team to make a giant stride in the world cricket. We need to evaluate our capacity to host the Women's BPL. We'll try our best to make it happen."
But the BCB has given its utmost importance now to make the upcoming BPL a grand success.
"Simultaneously our goal is to make the Men's BPL stronger further. Although this is the first BPL during my tenure in the board, it's also the last of this cycle," he said, adding that he wants to ensure the major franchises to stay for the long term.
"Having two or three new franchises every year is not ideal. We want to ensure the BPL could take place with seven teams despite several obstacles, including the economic situation and teams withdrawing. Now, it's time for better screening and adjustments," he said.
Since the inception of BPL, the unpaid dues of the franchises have been the major issue.
The BCB boss said that they are taking legal measures to solve the issue.
"We've taken legal arbitration measures for franchises with unpaid fees from the last BPL. There's a process underway to recover the dues, although the first check hasn't been received yet," Faruque said.
"Four to five teams have significant pending amounts. We hope to recover the money soon."
