Bangladesh to face record 515-run target for victory in 1st Test

Shubhman Gill and Rishab Pant hit centuries as India declared its second innings on 287-4, setting a mammoth 515-run target for Bangladesh to win the first Test at M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Gill was not out on 119 after smashing his fifth Test century. KL Rahul was on 22 as India declared its innings, shortly after the lunch session.

Resuming the Day 3 on 81-3, Gill and Pant remained unscathed throughout the morning session to help India push the lead past 500.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz who took 2-103 broke through with the wicket of Pant after he and Gill added 167 runs for fourth wicket.

Pant in his comeback Test after deadly car crush that nearly took his life hammered 128 ball-109 with 13 fours and four sixes. It was his sixth Test century.

Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud picked up one wicket apiece.

The highest successful chase in Test history remains 418, meaning Bangladesh need to rewrite the history to win the game.
